The Bridge acts as a focus for joint activity for Councils for Voluntary Service in Dumfries and Galloway
and facilitates effective representation of the voluntary and community sector within the region.
The Bridge is
a charitable organisation formed from the merger of the Dumfries and Galloway Federation of CVS based in Lockerbie and Wigtown
CVS based in Stranarer.
The merger was agreed by the organisations' members in preparation for planned changes
in Scottish Government funding of voluntary sector support organisations.
The Bridge Dumfries & Galloway will
continue to support voluntary organisations and not-for-profit businesses (known as social enterprises) in Wigtownshire and
those regional and national organisations which operate across Dumfries and Galloway.
Support can include providing
training for volunteer Board members, advising on issues encountered by the organisations or helping with applications for
grant funding. There is also an important role in keeping these organisations informed about local and national issues which
affect them, opportunities to attract funds and ensuring that their views are heard in discussions with statutory organisations
such as the Council and the NHS.
